It's 2009 already?
Wow -- that means my little Jake is almost a year old! And I haven't even told you guys about our super-fabulous Christmas yet.

Jake's first Christmas was especially memorable. We celebrated Christmas at home this year, so we set cookies out for Santa, opened presents then enjoyed a yummy pancake breakfast...just the 4 of us. It was really sweet. I love family traditions and it seems now we've established our own. Santa brought Henry everything on his list -- two new trains and more train tracks. We got Henry a bike. He's still learning to ride it though -- takes a bit of coordination even with training wheels. Jake got a new car seat, some baby teething toys, new shoes and booties. His favorite was the new pacifers stuffed in his stocking.

On Christmas eve we hung out at my parents house and did our Hughs family gift exchange. The day after Christmas we took a roadtrip to Palestine, Texas. Gram Mellie & Grandpa Bob got us all tickets to ride on the "Polar Express". It's a real steam engine that takes kids (and adults) on an hour-long train ride with songs from the movie, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa.

The next day we jumped back in the car and drove to the Lost Pines Resort, just outside of Austin. We spent 3 fun-filled days that included lots of good food, a horse-drawn carriage, a marshmellow roast, riding Henry's new bike, visiting the spa, playing on the playground and even swimming! Henry was in heaven! We were too -- I highly recommend that resort for a quick family getaway.

Back at home, we enjoyed lots of laying around and visiting family and friends. Matt was off until Janruary 5th, and it was great having him at home for two straight weeks right before busy season.

Before Christmas Aunt Karen and Ana came and helped Henry build a gingerbread house. Perfect timing because the following day I hosted a Christmas playgroup for Henry, Jake, Taylor, Noah, Sophia, Christian, Kai, Xander and Karley. Lots o' babies -- lots o' fun. Uncle Bill came into town and helped Matt build a sandbox. Henry spends a lot of time in the backyard these days. He doesn't mind the cold and even kicks off his shoes before diving in. Sand between the toes is nice, but it's JANUARY!
