Today was the last day of school so summer is upon us! When I checked the blog and noticed my last post included snow pics, I thought I'd better bridge the gap between freezing and swimsuits.
Easter:
Jake apparently hated his Easter outfit. Matt had it laid out for church on Easter Sunday and while getting Henry dressed, Jake's outfit disappeared. 4 adults and 15minutes later we finally found it stuffed in Henry's desk drawer.

In case you haven't heard, we're expecting 3 new cousins. Erin is due at the end of June and Melinda is having her twins any day now. My mom is retiring after almost 40 years to help Melinda and Erin out. It is a well-deserved and perfectly timed departure.

Mike and Pop have successfully turned Henry into a fisherman. It's a Hughs gene I didn't inherit. Taking Henry on Pop's boat, catching 4 fish, helping Pop fillet them and fry them up for dinner ended up being a wonderful lesson on where fish sticks come from. Henry later asked if we could get rid of Shack and get a fish. I told him we'd keep Shack and get fish too. He thought that was a great idea. We bought 10 goldfish and so far only 2 have gone to fishy heaven.

I know it looks like Henry has Jake in a headlock but really he's just giving him a big-brother hug. Yes, they do have matching buzz cuts; and Jake is now sleeping in Henry's room on the bottom bunk. Henry has moved up top.

Matt's co-workers talked him into running the Warrior Dash -- a 3-mile obstacle course that consists of swampy water, a mud pit and fire. It happened to fall on our anniversary weekend, but when you've been married 11 years, a day without the kids is a celebration. Besides, 2 weeks later we had our fill of wine at a wedding in Napa Valley.

Summer fun:
Really it went from freezing to 90 in no time. We've been swimming/sliding in the backyard all week. Water, friends and popsicles - does it get any better?

For Mother's Day, I asked Matt, Pop and cousin William to help us build the boys a fort. Boy moms will agree - when they are entertained in the backyard, it is a gift. We had big plans that included an enclosed 1st floor and a swing set to the right. We're also planning on staining it a pretty cherry color but it is freakin' boiling outside. The boys are just happy to have something huge to climb on, so we'll surprise them with these additions later in the summer...maybe fall.
